Seokchon Lake Luminarie 2026: Dates, Opening Night Fireworks and How to Get There
Last checked: October 29, 2026. Event details come from Songpa-gu announcements reported in Korean media. Times can change, especially in bad weather, so check before you go.
Every late autumn, Seokchon Lake in southeast Seoul swaps its daytime joggers for a long, glowing loop of light installations. The Seokchon Lake Luminarie (석촌호수 루미나리에) returns on Friday, October 30, 2026, and this season it runs for 122 nights, all the way to February 28, 2027.
It's free, it's right next to Lotte World Tower, and it's one of the easiest evening plans in Seoul: get off the subway, walk five minutes, and the lights do the rest. Last season, about 2.89 million people came, so you won't have the lake to yourself. This guide covers the dates, the opening-night fireworks, how to get there, and how to dodge the worst of the crowds.
Seokchon Lake Luminarie 2026 at a glance
| What | Details |

The installations line the walking path around both halves of the lake, so the "festival" is really a slow evening walk. Around The Sphere on the West Lake side, there are heart-shaped light installations this year, which is roughly where every couple in Seoul will be taking the same photo.
Opening night: Friday, October 30
The opening ceremony is the busiest and most fun night of the season. According to the announced schedule:
- Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM
- Place: the waterside stage on East Lake (동호 수변무대)
- Performance: Forestella, a Korean crossover vocal quartet
- Finale: fireworks over the lake, as the last part of the ceremony
- Cost: free, no tickets
The exact fireworks time hasn't been announced separately. Since they close the ceremony, expect them somewhere near the 8 PM end time, and be in place well before. Fireworks over water are a good deal: you get the show and its reflection for the price of zero.
For photos, stand where you can see the East Lake stage and face the water. If you can fit Lotte World Tower into the frame as well, the picture mostly takes itself.
Opening weekend extras
- October 30 – November 1: flea market and food trucks
- October 31 and November 1: weekend performances
If you're in Seoul that weekend, it's worth going for the food trucks alone. Late October evenings get chilly, and something hot in one hand makes the walk much better.
How to get there
Take Seoul Subway Line 2 or Line 8 to Jamsil Station (잠실역). Last season's official Seoul city guide said the light trail is about a five-minute walk from Exit 2 or Exit 3. Follow the signs toward Seokchon Lake (석촌호수), or just head for Lotte World Tower, the tallest building around. The lake sits right beside it.
On opening night, skip the car. The roads and parking lots around Lotte World and Jamsil fill up fast, and the subway is cheaper and quicker. If you're new to Seoul transit, a T-money card or a tourist transit card works on all subway lines.
When to go to avoid the crowds
The lights run for four months, so you don't have to go on opening night. Some easy ways to get a calmer walk:
- Go on a weekday. Monday to Thursday evenings are noticeably quieter than Fridays and weekends.
- Arrive right at 5:30 PM. You get the last blue light of dusk with the installations just switching on, which is the best time for photos.
- Avoid late December weekends if you don't like crowds. The lake is a classic year-end date spot in Seoul.
- Walk the West Lake later. Most people start at the East Lake near the stage, so doing the loop in reverse can help.
What to eat nearby
A full loop of the lake with photo stops takes about an hour. After that, Seoul's own city guide suggests two nearby areas:
- Songridan-gil (송리단길): a small grid of cafés, bakeries and casual restaurants just east of the lake. Good for coffee and dessert.
- Bangi-dong food alley (방이동 먹자골목): a busier street of Korean barbecue, stews and pubs near Jamsil. Good for a proper dinner.
Lotte World Mall, right by the lake, is the easy option if it's raining or you want a food court with lots of choice.
Practical tips
- Dress warmly. The lake is breezy, and evenings in November and December are cold, often below freezing by January.
- Check Songpa-gu's notices before going on opening night if rain is forecast. The ceremony schedule can change.
- Bring a charged phone. Between the lights, the tower and the reflections, you'll take more photos than you expect.
- Save the Korean name, 석촌호수 루미나리에, for Naver Map or KakaoMap. They work much better than Google Maps for walking directions in Korea.
- Strollers are manageable on the lakeside path, but opening night is very crowded. Pick a weekday if you're with small kids.
